Over the past decade, Takoma Park has changed from a community able to support families with a range of incomes to one with higher property values, a larger number of higher-income families, and a smaller number of middle income families.

On January 26, Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP) offered a mini-tour of Gilbert Highlands, a 21-unit, affordable housing property at 8508 and 8510 Flower Avenue in the Long Branch section of Takoma Park. Two major findings emerge from the Takoma Park housing report card data. First, Takoma Park has preserved much of its affordable housing , but affordability remains a challenge. Second, Takoma Park real estate values soared through much of the last decade making affordable home ownership opportunities extremely limited.
